Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: LAUNCESTON > CRADLE MOUNTAIN
Estimated distance: 151km / 2 hours 15 minutes

> Depart Launceston for Elizabeth Town for a morning or afternoon treat at the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm & Ashgrove Cheese on the main highway.

> Continue on to Cradle Mountain.

> This evening, proceed to Devils@Cradle Reception to commence an After Dark Feeding Tour. The after dark feeding tour commences in the interpretation centre with a short film followed by a summary of conservation work. The second part of the tour involves a walk outside amongst a large breeding group of Tasmanian devils. Your guide will enter the enclosures and feed a number of these animals whilst interpreting their behaviour and answering any questions you may have. Tour concludes approximately 75 minutes after commencement.

Overnight: Cradle Mountain Hotel

Day 2: CRADLE MOUNTAIN

> Cradle Mountain Lodge walk the 20 minute Enchanted Walk loop that winds leisurely through the button-grass plains alongside the Pencil Pine River.
> Spend the day exploring one of Tasmania's most beautiful walking tracks: the 6 km Dove Lake Circuit. It's a leisurely stroll, so the toughest part will be trying to peel your eyes away from the craggy Cradle Mountain skyline.
> Visit the Wilderness Gallery with its ever-changing array of environmental photography. The building is actually a series of interlinked galleries built around an enclosed native garden.

Day 3: CRADLE MOUNTAIN > LAUNCESTON
Estimated distance: 151km / 2 hours 15 mins

> Depart Cradle Mountain for Sheffield also known as the town of murals - with its social history depicted in more than 40 extensive outdoor murals on the walls of shops and public buildings.

> Continue for Deloraine for Ashgrove Cheese, watch for the Ashgrove Cheese Shop on the left. A delicious presentation of local produce awaits for foodies. The scenery in this part of Tasmania varies from open farmland with mountains on the horizon, to woodland and replanted forests that are commercial timber growing operations. It is an area of rolling hills, gentle valleys and pleasant scenery.

> Arriving at Launceston, stop by Cataract Gorge a unique natural formation within central Launceston - a rare natural phenomenon in any city.

Day 4: LAUNCESTON > COLES BAY
Estimated distance: 179km / 2 hours 20 mins

> Drive through the well-preserved Georgian townships of Evandale and Campbell Town. We make a short stop in Campbell Town where you can discover the Convict Brick Trail that extends through the town, visit the Red Bridge, and check out the tree sculptures depicting the history of the town.

> Travel to the East Coast, where we catch an amazing view of the area at the Great Oyster Bay Lookout.

> Once inside Freycinet National Park, begin a series of walks and exploration of the area. Check out the Wineglass Bay Lookout, a moderate uphill walk of around 45 – 60 minutes. Here the views make the walk well worth the effort!

> Visit Honeymoon Bay, Sleepy Bay, Cape Tourville Lighthouse & great short walk.

Overnight: Freycinet Lodge

Day 5: COLES BAY > PORT ARTHUR
Estimated distance: 192km / 2 hours 40 mins

> At 10am, arrive at Freycinet Marine Farm for a 2 hour guided oyster farm tour. Step into a pair of waders and walk out into the crisp waters of Freycinet Marine Farm. Learn how the juicy oysters are grow. Harvest delicious fresh out of the water and even try shucking an oyster. Enjoy the spectacular view of the Hazard mountains from the waterfront while you enjoy half a dozen natural pacific oysters with matching dressings and half a bowl of steamed mussels paired with one of Freycinet Vineyard's award-winning wines.

> Thereafter, proceed to The Devil's Corner Cellar Door and Lookout located by the edge of Moulting Lagoon on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast and provides spectacular views across the Lagoon to the Hazards at Coles Bay. You might also want to lunch here at one of the restaurants.

> Then to Kate's Berry Farm for desserts! Kates offers a unique range of mouth-watering quality produce and products that highlight what Tasmania does so well. Treat yourself to Kate's Handcrafted Chocolates or taste her unique range of sumptuous jams, sauces, fruit wines made from Kate's home grown fruits.

> After check out, take a short walk to Tessellated Pavement,a natural geological wonder with striking rock formations.

Overnight: Lufra Hotel and Apartments

Day 6: PORT ARTHUR > HOBART
Estimated distance: 192km / 2 hours 40 mins

> In the morning, proceed to The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site , Australia’s most intact and evocative convict site. There is a lot to see and do with more than 30 historic buildings and ruins to explore over 100 acres so you’ll want to allow a minimum 3-4 hours.

> Following that, visit the picture-perfect town, Richmond that is located in the heart of the Coal River Valley wine region. A place that tells the story of an early Australian colonial village. This is the perfect place to learn about Tasmania's past and can be as easy as a stroll down the pretty nineteenth century streets. Richmond has more than 50 Georgian buildings, many beautifully restored and now operating as cafes, restaurants, galleries and accommodation. The town's most photographed landmark is the Richmond Bridge. Built by convicts in the 1820s, it's the oldest bridge in Australia and offers a perfect picnic spot on the grassy banks of the Coal River.

Overnight: Lenna on Hobart

Day 7: HOBART > MARIA ISLAND
Estimated distance: 85.7km / 1 hour 12 mins from Hobart to Triabunna (per way)

> Proceed to Triabunna for your ferry to Maria Island (Schedule subject to change: From Triabunna at 9am,10:03am, 12pm / From Maria Island at 9:45am, 11:15am, 3:30pm and 5pm)
Maria Island is a stunning island National Park with rich in local wildlife, amazing scenery and world heritage convict history. There are a series of moderate walks exploring the beautiful Painted Cliffs, the dramatic Fossil Cliffs and the remarkable Darlington World Heritage convict site that you can do. The island is a haven for abundant wildlife, it is one of Tasmania's bird watching hot spots. Wombats can also be seen around the island, as well as Pademelons, Forester Kangaroos, Bennetts wallabies and Tasmanian Devils. Even the ferry ride is part of the highlights of the day, the waters you cross are also abundant in sea life, keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, seals and penguins along the way.

> If time permit, proceed to the summit of Kunanyi/Mt Wellington for spectacular views across Southern Tasmania including an elevated look over the beautiful city of Hobart.

Day 8: HOBART > CURRINGA FARM
Estimated distance: 78Km / 1 hour 6 mins

> Check out early for Mt Field National Park. Mt Field National Park is Tasmania's first national park, with stunning vistas, great walks, abundant wildlife and excellent visitor facilities. Russell Falls is the star attraction and even featured on Australia's first stamp. It's a short, wheelchair accessible journey from the visitor centre, through enormous fern forests and some of the world's tallest trees.
> Thereafter, proceed to Curringa Farm. Come early so that you can have a bit of relaxing time to enjoy at the farm before heading home.

Day 9: CURRINGA FARM > HOBART
