SUGGESTED ITINERARY

DAY 1: ADELAIDE - VICTOR HARBOUR
Estimated distance: 88km / 1.30 hour

Upon arrival at Adelaide International Airport, pick up your car from Hertz Car Rental counter at the airport.

Only 45 minutes drive south of Adelaide; the Fleurieu Peninsula has rolling hills of vineyards, untouched bushland, stunning beaches and dramatic coastlines. Spend a day visiting some of McLaren Vale’s 70 plus cellar doors, art and craft galleries and olive and almond shops. Discover the Cheese and Wine Trail or explore the McMurtrie Mile wineries, brewery and restaurants. Continue south to Victor Harbor, South Australia’s most famous coastal resort town. Renowned as a great place for watching southern right whales in winter, it is also home to a colony of little penguins on Granite Island. The island is a short walk across the timber causeway or a pleasant ride on the horse-drawn tram.
Overnight at McCracken Country Club Victor Harbour.

DAY 2: VICTOR HARBOUR - GOOLWA - VICTOR HARBOUR
Estimated distance: 18km / 20 Mins per way

Goolwa is an old river port on the Murray River, close to where the river meets the sea. Join a cruise (own expense) that takes you to the mouth of the Murray, and learn about the eco-system, wildlife and Aboriginal significance of this area known as the Coorong. Just minutes from Goolwa are the Currency Creek and Langhorne Creek wine regions. Or walk a section of the Heysen Trail, which is regarded as one of the greatest long distance walking trails in Australia.

Overnight at McCracken Country Club Victor Harbour.

DAY 3: VICTOR HARBOUR - KANGAROO ISLAND
Estimated DRIVING distance: 60km / 45 Mins per way
Estimated FERRY distance: 45 Mins per way

Drive to Cape Jervis to catch the passenger/car ferry to Kangaroo Island. The island has so many rich experiences that we recommend a minimum of two days. At 155 kilometres long, it’s Australia’s third largest island. Here you’ll find echidnas, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and little penguins and will be rewarded with remarkable close-up wildlife experiences. There are nearly 1600 kilometres of road on the island. he major roads between Penneshaw, American River, Kingscote, Parndana and Flinders Chase are sealed, well maintained and well signposted. The remainder are unsealed and require driving at a reduced speed. However these minor roads are well worth the discovery as they can uncover amazing beautiful vantage points and little known coves.

Overnight at Kangaroo Island Seafront.

DAY 4: KANGAROO ISLAND
Estimated distance from Penneshaw - Seal Bay 96.2km / 70mins
Estimated distance from Seal Bay - Flinders 67km / 50mins
Estimated distance from Flinders - Penneshaw - 139km / 1 hour 40 mins

Start your day early to day! Drive to Seal Bay Conservation Park and join a guided tour down on to the beach (own expense, approx A$35 per adult from Seal Bay Visitor Centre), where you’ll have the closest possible encounter with the sea lions that rest here. On a guided tour, guides lead you down off the tour platform and onto the beach. For safety reasons your group will stay together at all times. Remember this is a colony of wild animals, and the protective bulls can weigh up to 350kg. This is a true nature adventure so you never really know what to expect, but circumstances permitting, your group could get within 10 metres of the sea lions. In winter, the sea lions tend to move back into the sand dune system for warmth so sometimes you’ll come across them in the strangest of places. They have been spotted underneath the boardwalk, on the path leading down to the beach, even up by the visitors centre!
Alternatively you can go on a self-guided boardwalk (own expense, approx A$16 per person).

Please be aware that it is illegal to leave the boardwalk or to visit the beach at any time without a guide. It is also illegal (and potentially dangerous) to touch the animals.

Following that, proceed on to Flinders Chase National Park where you will see the dramatic coastal formations of Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. This is a haven for wildlife and has numerous walking trails. Some of the shorter walks for your consideration:-
* Discovery Walk – easy 200 metres – Follow the interpretive signs to the Black Swamp lookout that will help you hone your wildlife spotting skills.
* Woodlands Walk – easy 1 km – Stroll through sugar gum woodlands and acacia thickets on this loop walk.
* Heritage Walk – easy 1.5 km – Learn about the park’s cultural heritage and its early settlers on a loop walk with interpretive signs.
* Platypus Waterholes Walk – easy 4.5 km – A return walk to the waterholes where you may see a Platypus or two.

Depart for hotel not later than 4PM as the drive will takes you about 1 hour 40mins (139km)

Overnight at Kangaroo Island Seafront.

DAY 5: KANGAROO ISLAND - ADELAIDE
Estimated Ferry distance from Penneshaw - Cape Jervis 60km / 45 mins
Estimated distance from Cape Jervis to Adelaide 107km / 95 mins

Continue exploring Kangaroo Island today. There are beautiful secluded beaches on the north coast. The island also produces wonderful foods and products including honey from the world’s only pure Ligurian bees, fine sheep milk cheeses and yoghurt, marron (fresh water lobster), eucalyptus oil and wine. Many of the island’s producers have retail outlets and offer tours to visitors. This afternoon make your way to Penneshaw for the return ferry journey to the mainland and the easy drive back to Adelaide.

DAY 6: ADELAIDE

Renowned as the Festival City and the Australian capital of Food & Wine, Adelaide is an exciting city for anyone who enjoys the good life - great food & wine, the arts, shopping, entertainment or simply enjoying the relaxed lifestyle.

Located in the heart of the city next to Adelaide's Chinatown, Adelaide Central Market is the oldest fresh produce market in Australia. The variety of produce on offer is superb, which includes fruits and vegetables, cheeses, seafood, continental meats and organic produce.

Explore Adelaide's museum collections and exhibitions: the Art Gallery of South Australia holds one of Australia's finest art collections; the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery at the South Australian Museum has the world's most comprehensive Aboriginal artifacts collection; the Tandanya Aboriginal Cultural Institute is the world's first indigenous-owned and managed multi-arts Aboriginal cultural centre.

Only 20-minutes' from the city, Port Adelaide houses the historic South Australian Maritime Museum. Meet bottlenose dolphins on the Port River cruises or go kayaking. Visit the artistic seaside suburb of Semaphore or hunt for antiques, books and bric-a-brac at Fisherman's Wharf Sunday Market next to the Port's lighthouse.

Adelaide's retail hub is the Rundle Mall - with many arcades and more than 600 shops. Unley Road, Burnside and Hyde Park are recommended for clothing boutiques, and Magill Road and Norwood Parade for Antiques. Tea Tree Plaza and Marion shopping centres are the major suburban shopping centres. The Harbour Town Outlet Shopping Centre is a one-stop destination for designer brands and homeware stores, offering savings up to 60 percent daily. For renowned South Australian brands, check out Haigh's Chocolates and Jurlique.

Rundle Street in Adelaide's East End has a busy, casual atmosphere and is recommended for lunch and night dining. Hutt Street is a great breakfast spot, and Gouger Street is known for its Asian and seafood restaurants. O'Connell Street and Melbourne Street in North Adelaide offers fine dining and cafe society side by side.
