Suggested Itinerary

DAY 1: DARWIN

On arrival, transfer to the hotel by seat-in-coach. Rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 2 - KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (Tour including Lunch)

Pick up from your hotel for your transfer to 69 Mitchell Street, the departure point of your tour. At 6.30am join your coach to commence a two day Kakadu National Park and East Alligator River tour. Depart Darwin and travel along the Arnhem Highway into World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Covering some 20,000 square kilometres, Kakadu is Australia's largest and arguably most famous national park with vast wetlands and ancient escarpments to floodplains abundant with wildlife. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre to view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Then join a local guide for a cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned. After lunch, stop at Nourlangie Rock where your guide will lead a walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries.

DAY 3 - KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (Tour including Lunch)

Travel to Ubirr to explore the galleries of ancient Aboriginal artwork and see the views over the surrounding wetlands. After lunch, join the Guluyambi cultural cruise along the East Alligator River with an Aboriginal guide. Watch for a variety of wildlife including crocodiles and learn about the ancient culture and legends of the region. With special permission from the local custodians, disembark on the Arnhem Land side of the river for a short walk into Arnhem Land. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre then in the late afternoon commence the return journey to Darwin. Tour concludes at approximately 7.30 pm, at which time hotel drop offs will commence.

DAY 4 - FULL DAY KATHERINE GORGE CRUISE AND EDITH FALLS (Tour including Lunch)

Pick up from your hotel for your transfer to 69 Mitchell Street, the departure point of your tour. At 6.30am join your coach to commence a full day Katherine Gorge Cruise and Edith Falls tour. Depart Darwin and travel south through tropical country, passing former WWII airstrips enroute to Adelaide River. Make a stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a site dedicated to those killed in the air raids in Darwin in the 1940's. Continue to Leliyn (Edith Falls), where this is time for a refreshing swim in the paperbark and pandanas fringed waterhole beneath the falls (conditions permitting). Continue to Katherine to enjoy lunch before boarding a 2 hour scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Cruise between the sheer sandstone cliffs of Katherine Gorge and enjoy a guided commentary detailing the areas plant and wildlife. Keep an eye out for crocodiles and the splendid array of birdlife. The cruise of the first two gorges takes you past sheer rock walls and requires a short walk to reach the second gorge. After the cruise enjoy a brief tour of Katherine township, the hub of the region's cattle and farming industries. Return to Darwin via Pine Creek, an historic gold mining town. Make a stop for dinner on the way (own expense). Tour concludes at approximately 8.30pm, at which time hotel drop offs will commence.

DAY 5 - FULL DAY LITCHFIELD NATIONAL PARK WATERFALLS (Tour including Lunch)

Pick up from your hotel for your transfer to 69 Mitchell Street, the departure point of your tour. At 7.15am join your coach to commence a full day tour to Litchfield National Park. Litchfield National Park contains several types of typical Top End habitats including lush monsoon forests, termite mounds, unusual rock formations, waterfalls and cascades. Follow the Stuart Highway via the township of Batchelor to Litchfield National Park where we will visit the main falls. First stop is Florence Falls, where you have the opportunity for a scenic and interpretive bush and monsoon vine forest walk. There is also the chance for a swim by making your way down the stairs to the plunge pool below. Travel on to Tolmer Falls for a magnificent view of the water cascading down to the deep waterhole at the base of the falls. Finally we visit Wangi Falls, with its large crystal clear pool, another relaxing spot for a swim. On the way back to Darwin we make a stop in at Howard Spring Nature Park, where you will have the chance to feed the Barramundi and Turtles. A great day for taking many fascinating photos, including the amazing stand of termite mounds. Lunch is included today. Tour concludes at approximately 6.00pm, at which time hotel drop offs will commence.

DAY 6: DARWIN CITY TOUR

Pick up from your hotel for your transfer to 69 Mitchell Street, the departure point of your tour. At 12.45pm join your coach to commence an afternoon Darwin City Sights tour. The perfect introduction to Darwin with an experienced and knowledgeable guide providing an informative and interesting commentary. See the Botanic Gardens and Chinese Temple, which was re-built after it was totally demolished by Cyclone Tracy in 1974. Tour the historic sites of the city including East Point Military Precinct. See the Stokes Hill Wharf area, the Mooring Basin and Darwin Aviation Museum. There is also time available to explore the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, where the collections encompass Aboriginal Art, visual arts and Northern Territory history and natural sciences. Tour concludes at approximately 5.30pm, at which time hotel drop offs will commence.
